Discussion at Riga Zoo – “Speaking Between Species




On January 18 at 1:00 PM, discussion “Speaking Between Species,” will take place at the Environmental Education Center “Zinarium” in Riga Zoo.


The goal of the discussion is to provide a platform for specialists from various fields to exchange ideas on how to think and talk about nature and multispecies relations.


Panelists will aslo hold discussion on what are the most effective ways how to plan and implement communication on topics related nature conservation and biodiversity preservation by combining the perspectives of biologists, zoologists, and anthropologists.


The event will begin at 12:00 PM with a walk, followed by 15-minute presentations starting at 1:00 PM. The speakers include social anthropology program graduates Ilze Lisovska (University of Latvia) and Līva Smildzere (Riga Stradiņš University), Riga Zoo’s scientific consultant Dr. biol. Alessandro Di Marzio, and expert botanist Rūta Sniedze-Kretalova from the Latvian Fund for Nature. The event will be moderated by Māra Neikena, a lecturer in Cultural and Social Anthropology at the University of Latvia.


Participants will discuss topics such as species categorization, bees, urban meadows, and species conservation projects. The afternoon will conclude with an open discussion in which all attendees are invited to participate.
